July 2007 - After a successful first season, ‘Jumana – Secret
of the Desert’ returns to the Al Sahra amphitheatre
from 1 October 2007 to dazzle audiences with a
sound, light, water and pyrotechnic extravaganza,
telling the story of Prince Omar and his princess
through dance and narration by Omar Sharif.
The Jumana show is the only permanent live entertainment
in Dubai, celebrating the region’s rich
history and culture, interpreting fable and folkloric
themes from the Gulf, the Maghreb, the Levant,
Yemen, Oman and Persia into a spellbinding fantasy.
With more than 60 dancers and acrobats; camels
and horses; the production is a thrilling combination
of state-of-the-art effects against a spectacular
desert backdrop. Jumana is performed daily at
21:00, Tuesday to Saturday, at the Al Sahra Desert
Resort, in Dubailand.
The food and beverage outlets at Al Sahra showcase
popular dishes from around the regions of Arabia,
the Maghreb and the Gulf in a simple and authentic
manner. Traditional dishes such as Ouzi (a whole
lamb cooked in a ground pit for 24 hrs), an array
of deluxe BBQ items seasoned in Arabic spices
cooked on a charcoal grill, and live bread baking
stations from Syria and Egypt, are several of
the interactive cooking displays on offer. The
outdoor Lahab (‘flame’ in Arabic)
restaurant is situated next to the amphitheatre’s
souq area with the setting sun as a backdrop.
Inside the Amphitheatre, the Jumana Lounge provides
a wide selection of beverages and Middle Eastern
tapas ‘a la carte’ for guests to enjoy
before or after the show.
The main entertainment complex also incorporates
a traditional Arabic craft souk, a Bedouin style
village area, a date plantation with a falaj (an
ancient Arabic irrigation system), a camel farm;
a petting zoo and horse stables surrounded by
indigenous regional flora and fauna in a typical
desert oasis landscape – an ideal setting
for the day visitor.
